Three main signs of U -turn
1- False claim in Russian oil
Trump recently claimed that India has stopped buying oil from Russia – something he described as a “good step”. However, he could not explain his claim that he had helped to prevent a war between India and Pakistan, and he did not mention where he received this information. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) announced that there is no change in oil imports from Russia.
In the meantime, Indian refineries continue to receive Russian oil, and the decision to do so is based on factors such as rough quality, pricing and supply, making Russian imports strategically beneficial.
2- Selective Tariff Exemptions
Despite the 25 percent tariff announcement, Trump exempt several important Indian exports. Pharmaceutical products such as tablets, syrups and injections were excluded from the tariff network to increase US medical costs. The temporary advantage of Bangladesh and Pakistan?
Meanwhile, the leaders in Pakistan and Bangladesh celebrate what they see as a tariff advantage for India. Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Provisional Government of Bangladesh, claimed that India was faced with a 25 percent tariff, while Bangladesh negotiated from 37 percent to 20 percent early this year. He argued that this would benefit Bangladesh’s textile industry.
