Full UK motorway closures for October 2025
Dozens of motorways are expected to hit motorists across the UK this autumn as National Highways completes major works across the country.
Overnight closures will occur regularly throughout October and November, meaning those driving later in the day may experience disruptions and distraction. Closings typically last from 8pm to 6am for jobs that will take less than 12 hours to complete.
There are currently three road closures until 2026, meaning drivers should prepare accordingly.
As the cold weather begins to take effect, National Highways also warned drivers to prepare for autumn on the roads. More than half (55 percent) of all drivers do not check tread depth before long journeys, and a similar proportion do not check tire pressure.
With tire problems set to cause more than 53,000 incidents in 2024, the highways authority is reminding drivers to check tire tread, pressure and condition before journeys this autumn
