Funeral director admits 35 fraud charges relating to human remains including four unborn babies
A former funeral director has pleaded guilty to more than 30 charges of fraud involving human remains, including those of four unborn babies.
Robert Bush, 47, admitted 35 counts of false representations and one count of fraud in relation to funeral plans at a hearing at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.
He also admitted four “fetus allegations”, which included falsely presenting a customer with ashes by telling them they were “the remains of their unborn baby”.
But Bush pleaded not guilty to 30 charges of obstructing the legal and proper burial of a body and 12 charges of theft from charity.
He will stand trial for these offenses at Sheffield Crown Court in October next year.
Many of those who committed fraud on false representation charges said he dishonestly made false representations to grieving families and would:
- Proper care for the remains of the deceased in accordance with the normally expected practices of a competent funeral director;
- ensuring that these remains are cremated on or immediately after the conclusion of the funeral ceremony;
- It was stated that the ashes presented to the customer were the remains of the deceased after being cremated.
