Zack Polanski has been criticized for the Green Party’s plan to lower the highway speed limit to 55 mph. The proposal is reportedly one of many contained in a policy document prepared by the Greens, which has been described by political opponents as a “war on drivers”.

Disgruntled people also took to social media to express their anger at the proposal. Responding to the reports, one X user described Mr Polanski as “crazy”, while another called the Green leader a “total lunatic”.

The Conservatives accused the Greens of being “out of touch” with drivers over proposals that include raising car taxes “gradually” and requiring drivers to retake the test every five years.

According to the plans, parking spaces will also be “steadily reduced” and the speed limit in urban areas and villages will be reduced to 32 km/h. Daily Mail This spoiled the story.

The document states that the Greens want to tackle the problem of “a decrease in walking, cycling and bus use, and an increase in car and air journeys”.

He said a 55mph speed limit “on major roads outside built-up areas” would improve both safety and fuel efficiency.

The policy document also claimed that “driving is a privilege, not a right.”

Shadow transport secretary Richard Holden said: Telegram: “This is an ugly, ideological attack on drivers in Britain from a party that is completely disconnected from drivers and working people in the UK, like Labour.

“Enforcing a 55 mph speed limit on highways, raising taxes, and penalizing drivers will cripple commuters, hurt the economy, and make daily commutes miserable. This is literally a war on drivers.”

“Only the Conservatives have the team, the plan and the leadership with the backbone to oppose these plans and tackle the pothole epidemic to get Britain moving again.”

Greens deputy leader Rachel Millward told BBC Radio 4’s Today program she was “not aware” of the policy of lowering motorway speed limits, later adding: “It’s certainly not one of our leading policies at this stage.”

A party source told The Telegraph that the framework for the changes had not been approved as official policy.

“These proposals were not included in the last election manifesto and are therefore not a priority of the party,” they said.

Polanski, who has overseen the Greens’ rise in polls since being elected party leader in September, did not comment on the reports.

The Express has contacted the Green Party for comment.
