Manila: According to local authorities, a powerful earthquake that measures 6.9 on a Richter scale hit the Middle Philippines late on Tuesday night and was at least 69 dead and injured more than 140. Emergency services are competing to save survivors as affected communities embrace the destruction.

The earthquake was shot 12 miles northeast of Bogo City in the province of Cebu in Visayas region, at 21:25 local time. The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers, which is a level that strengthens the destruction, because the seismic energy reached the surface with more intensity.
