Hunt begins for mystery ACT ticket holder who won $40 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday night=

A mysterious Australian won Thursday’s $40 million Powerball jackpot, but he had no idea they were a new multimillionaire.

The winning entry was purchased from a NSW Lottery outlet in the ACT and is the third largest lottery prize ever won in Canberra.

If the winner was part of The Lott Members Club and had their ticket saved to a player card or online account, they already knew how lucky they were.

Instead, The Lott officials are eagerly waiting for the ticket holder to come forward.

Lott spokesman Matt Hart said he was looking forward to Australia’s newest multimillionaire checking his tickets and getting in touch to start the prize claim process.

“What an incredible way to end FY26,” he said.

“Someone became a multimillionaire overnight but probably doesn’t know it yet,” he said.

“We can’t wait for them to discover this winning news! Imagine how $40 million could change the lives of you and those closest to you.”
