Gaza truce talks reportedly faltering over withdrawal

Interviews aimed at providing a ceasefire in Gaza stop the scope of the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian settlements, Palestinian and Israeli sources familiar with the negotiations in Doha.

Sources are expected to continue indirect negotiations about the US for a 60 -day ceasefire.

A Palestinian source said that Hamas rejected the withdrawal maps proposed by Israel, because they would leave about 40 percent of the region under Israeli control, including the southern region of Rafah and other regions in the North and East Gaza.

The two sources of Israel said that Hamas wanted to withdraw to a previous ceasefire before renewing Israel’s attack in March.

The Palestinian source added that the issues related to aid and guarantees to end the war have also offered a challenge and that the crisis could be solved by more US intervention.

The White House said that his ambassador Steve Witkoff, who played an important role in preparing Trump’s latest ceasefire proposal on Monday, would go to Doha this week to participate in discussions.

Delegations from Israel and Hamas have been included in a renewed pressure for the withdrawal of the Israeli troops and the end of the war, which has been foreseen the gradual release of hostages since Sunday.

Hamas asked for the end of the war before releasing the remaining hostages; Israel insisted that it would end the war only when all hostages were released and Hamas was dismantled.

The war began on October 7, 2023 when the militants led by Hamas attacked Israel, killed about 1200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza.

It is believed that at least 20 of the remaining 50 hostages are still alive.

Israel’s next campaign against Hamas has killed more than 57,000 Palestinians since then, Gaza, according to Gaza health authorities, has displaced the population of almost more than two million people, led to a human crisis and left most of the region in ruins.
