Man, 18, charged with murder of De Montfort University student Khaleed Oladipo | UK news

A man has been charged with the murder of 20-year-old student Khaleed Oladipo in Leicester.

Police said Harper Dennis, 18, of North Road, West Drayton, London, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Oladipo, a cyber security student at De Montfort University, died after being stabbed in the chest on Oxford Street in Leicester city center on Tuesday night.

Leicestershire police said Dennis was due to appear at Leicester magistrates’ court on Saturday.

Police added that he was also charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place, unrelated to the murder investigation.

Oladipo, who lives in Leicester, was described by his family as a “much loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend” who was passionate about football.

His family said in a statement: “Words cannot express how sorry we are for the loss of Khaleed.

“Khaleed was a good kid who loved his family. He was a sophomore in college and we were so proud of him.

“One of his greatest passions was football and he had been playing football since the age of four. He was an Arsenal supporter and we believe he was stabbed to death that night on his way home to watch the match.”

“We would like to thank the public who stopped to help Khaled and the ambulance service and hospital staff who did all they could to save him.”
