GB News halted for breaking migrant crisis alert | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

This morning’s episode of Great Britain News, hosted by Ellie Costello and Mark White, has been suspended due to warnings about a migrant crisis. White began: “This morning I have some breaking news for you regarding the issue some of you have been texting about. Given the good weather yesterday and today, why are we not seeing any small boat interference in the canal?”

He continued: “What I can tell you as we speak is that people smugglers are currently trying to push small boats off the coast of northern France. There have been two attempts and we are told that at least one small boat has been intercepted by French law enforcement.” The presenter said another boat may have entered the water, but with a partial load, as French police said appeared to have intervened.

White added: “This is the latest information we can offer you on the situation of migrants in the Channel. There are currently attempts by people smugglers off the coast of northern France to push more boats into the Channel this morning.”

Some 4,766 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats so far this year, according to the latest figures from the Home Office and Border Force.

This number represents a significant decrease (about 28 percent lower) compared to the same period in 2025, when arrivals already exceeded 6,600.

Asked by guest Bill Rammel what he thought of the update, Costello said: “It’s welcome that the French police are taking action. It also underlines the fact that we need better negotiations with the French. “There was a big negotiation last week about whether we were going to agree a new big deal or scrap the existing deal.

“One of the stories said that without the French intervention, the number of small boat crossings would have been a third higher than it actually was. So we need that cooperation and we need to see the results.”

But White disagreed at all, adding: “I think this issue with small boats is not transparent and is deliberately not transparent by the Government. So when they talk about stopping boats what they really mean is that boats that have gone into the water can’t get to the UK because they have engine failure or are overcrowded. These all count as stopping boats.”

He claimed: “The number of people actually stopped by the police on the French coast is far fewer than the 40,000 people they claim were stopped overall.”
