Prince William gets hands-on as he makes surprise appearance | Royal | News

The Prince of Wales hit the ground running today as he helped sort food at a food bank in south-east London. Prince William visited PECAN, a long-established Peckham-based charity that aims to tackle poverty and support vulnerable residents.
The Future King was photographed speaking to staff, volunteers and those supported by the charity to learn more about the impact of the charity’s work. He was also seen sorting food for the food bank at a nearby warehouse.
William looked stylish in his navy blue jacket, dark trousers and light blue shirt.
PECAN runs a range of projects to support people facing food insecurity, unemployment and isolation in Southwark, including the Southwark Foodbank, which serves individuals and families in the borough.
Delivering food packages to an average of 100 households every week, the food bank helped feed approximately 7,000 adults and more than 2,500 children in 2025.
In 2024, the charity’s warehouse was burgled and food and hygiene products worth around £3,000 were seized.
But the charity was subsequently overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the community, which enabled it to recover quickly.
It has since continued to tackle poverty through its services, including a free cafe offering refreshments and support, the Employment Opportunity program Peckham Pantry, which operates as a social supermarket, and a women’s counseling service for those affected by the criminal justice system or facing complex life challenges.
