The Bulldogs controlled another quarter but could only extend their lead to 17 points in the main half.
High in midfield, the Dogs took possession of the area (32-18 in the home 50s) and put the Pies’ defense under huge pressure.
They are crying out for a striker who will grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Will Lewis scored twice but also missed opportunities and gave away costly free kicks.
Billy Frampton did useful work on Aaron Naughton, who competed fairly but failed to break away. I liked the play of Arty Jones, who was creative at ground level but was a half step short of turning his tackles into goals.
The Pies get by on the brilliance of Nick Daicos, the game’s leading ball winner with 18 disposals. When he receives the ball the game moves at a high pace and the Pies’ forward line looks the most dangerous. The Dogs were clearly the better side but the Pies could crush them unless they take advantage early in the second half.
