Tennessee Volunteers catcher Stone Lawless thought he had his team’s leadoff in the ninth inning against the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, but his dramatic at-bat came up empty.
Lawless drove Bulldogs pitcher Justin Byrd’s pitch to left. He slammed the stick on the ground and started celebrating with his teammates in the dugout. But Georgia left fielder Cole Johnson jumped the wall and stole the home run.

Johnson and his Bulldogs teammates celebrated the 8-7 victory. Lawless was stunned.

“I knew it was going to be right up against the wall, and if it was a homer, it wasn’t going to go out very far,” he said. “I was trying to get my back against the wall as fast as I could.”
