The first edition of Kalyana Karnataka Chitra Santhe, an open-air art exhibition in Kalaburagi aimed at promoting regional artists, failed to attract the expected crowd on February 17 due to low visitor attendance and limited participation of artists.

The exhibition was organized by the Deccan Art Society in association with educational institutions and various foundations at a public garden in Kalaburagi.

Despite featuring only 35 artists, Chitra Santhe presented a rich and diverse exhibition of artworks. Veteran artist Mohammad Ayazuddin Patel exhibited a series of digital artworks reflecting contemporary themes. Rehman Patel and Shaheed Pasha’s paintings featured a mix of abstract and figurative styles. Gopal PK presented watercolor landscapes depicting archaeological sites and village scenes, highlighting rural life with soft colors and simple compositions.

A special section featured senior artist SM Neela’s paintings based on the ideas of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara. His paintings attempt to portray the values of social equality and spiritual dialogue associated with Anubhava Mantapa.

Photographer Narayan Joshi showcased a series of photographs capturing everyday moments from rural and semi-urban environments.

Despite the variety of works on display, the exhibition had few visitors for most of the day. Some artists said a lack of promotion and limited support from cultural institutions may have contributed to the negative response.

However, the painting competition organized for school students was a clear success. Approximately 250 students from 20 schools actively participated, filling the area with energy and color. Parents and teachers also visited the exhibition and encouraged the children.

Deccan Art Association President Dr. Shaheed Pasha said the event was the first such initiative and he hoped to improve future editions with better planning and promotion. Meanwhile, artists emphasized that stronger social assistance is needed to make such events more successful and meaningful.
