GHMC Divisions Likely to Double to 300

Hyderabad:With Hyderabad becoming India’s largest metropolitan city after the merger of 27 urban local bodies (ULBs) spread over an area of around 2000 square kilometres, GHMC is expected to have 300 divisions as against the existing 150 divisions.
According to an official, the delimitation decision is expected to be published this week and the process is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
“We will publish the list of departments with details. Allegations and objections can be sent to GHMC within 10 days,” the official said.
Since some people from the merged ULBs said that the regional commissioner offices were too far away, GHMC deputy commissioners were deputed to manage the merged areas in coordination with the existing staff in the old ULBs.
Until a final arrangement was made for the management of the expanded GHMC, the management of the merged ULBs was assigned to the existing infectious GHMC areas.
Under this scheme, five ULBs each – seven in LB Nagar, four in Secunderabad and six in Kukatpally district – have been merged with GHMC Charminar and Serilingampally districts.
On Thursday, GHMC deputy commissioners started the process of closing the bank accounts of former ULBs by transferring their funds to the GHMC bank account.
The board of Jawaharnagar Municipal Corporation was replaced by the board of GHMC. Officials of the old ULBs met GHMC officials to ensure that the merger process was carried out smoothly.
