Gina Carano says Disney went quiet after settlement as she gears up for Rousey fight

Gina Carano says she has nothing left to prove, but she doesn’t stay silent either.

After years as one of Hollywood’s most visible examples of cancel culture, the former “Mandalorian” actress is rebuilding her career on her own terms.

Carano, who had one of her biggest wins throughout this “cancelled” saga, reached a legal settlement with Disney and is now preparing for a high-profile MMA comeback against Ronda Rousey on May 16.

In a new interview with Evie MagazineCarano reflected on how quickly the narrative around her was changing.

For Carano, the last few years have been a turning point in her perspective on media and public discourse.

Looking back at the social media posts that led to his firing, he says the reactions at the time were antithetical to the current situation.

“At the time, it was called conspiracy theories,” Carano said.

“And right now I’m making a hundred hits with my conspiracies. The questions I asked were questions other people wanted to ask.

“We got to the point where we couldn’t even ask questions, challenge the narrative, or even make a joke. Comedians suffered for it. People just expressed facts that people didn’t like. It was a crazy time. It wasn’t that long ago.”

After settling her lawsuit with Disney in August 2025, news about Carano largely diminished.

He believes the lack of follow-up tells its own story, especially when comparing how the company describes its exit versus how it handles resolution.

“No one is covering this up,” he said.

“I told you this Hollywood Reporter The journalist and they said: Yes, no one is reporting this. “But if you put the two statements Disney made side by side, the difference between what they said when they fired me and what they said in the deal is mind-boggling.”

Despite the negative fallout, Carano didn’t take aim at the creative team behind “The Mandalorian.”

Carano said her experience working with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau never matched the online narrative surrounding her departure.

“I never had a problem with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. I always thought they were great,” he added.

“There are a lot of things I can’t share. But these are two good people that I respect, and they respect me. The internet always wants you to get involved in its problem, whether it has anything to do with you or not.”

Carano said she’s also reset physically, away from Hollywood, as she prepares to return to fighting.

“I’ve been hiding from the world for so long. People will say, ‘I didn’t know it was that heavy,'” Carano said.

“It’s going to be a little embarrassing. But life is embarrassing; you better lean in a little bit more. Food is one of the most abused drugs. People use it to hide from the world. And I think a lot of people who use food, like me, are actually taking it out on themselves because they don’t want to take it out on others. They’re often very sensitive people.”

As she prepares to face Rousey, Carano also talked about how she balances femininity in a sport like MMA.

“You can still be a woman, love everything and be feminine. It’s actually kind of cute,” she said. “Women are strong. They don’t have to be like men to be strong.”

Now, with a deal behind her and a return to competition ahead of her, Carano says she’s more focused on what’s next than what’s come before.

“I feel like I’m blooming now,” Carano said. “I love this age. I have a husband. I have goals. This is the best I’ve ever felt.”
