Shopping platform goes down during Cyber Monday

Shopify The outage on Cyber Monday left some users and businesses unable to complete their transactions on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
In an update status pageThe Canadian e-commerce company said select merchants experienced issues logging in to Shopify, while others were unable to access their point-of-sale systems, a critical portal used to manage transactions and other back-end processes.
“We are still investigating administrative and login issues and implementing mitigations,” the company wrote on its status page around 12:20 EST.
A Shopify spokesperson referred CNBC to the status page when reached for comment.
The website Downdetector showed that thousands of users reported issues with Shopify around 1:15 pm EST, after nearly 4,000 cases were reported by users at 11:00 am EST.
Shopify sells software for merchants running online businesses, as well as services such as advertising and payment processing tools.

The company has made its name as a platform for small businesses and direct-to-consumer brands, but it increasingly hosts online storefronts for larger retailers like Reebok. MattelBarnes & Noble and Nestlé.
The outage coincided with the Cyber Monday sales bonanza, when holiday shoppers flocked to snap up discounted items.
Adobe Analytics predicts that U.S. consumers will spend $14.2 billion online on Monday, up 6.3% from the previous year.
American customers spent $11.8 billion on Black Friday, up 9.1% from last year, according to Adobe.
