Girl describes being scared to go out after teenage rapists spared jail time

Warning: This story contains details that some may find upsetting
A girl who escaped the custody of her teenage rapists told the BBC she wanted “freedom” out of fear. He and his family spoke anonymously to BBC Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire.
“I want to be able to go for a walk without being afraid that I’ll see them,” the girl said of the attackers, whose sentences will be reviewed.
Her father said the boys who raped him should be jailed as the attack would have a “lifelong impact” on his daughter.
Two boys, then 14, were found guilty of rape, while the third boy, then 13, was found guilty of rape by aiding and abetting the attack. Following the reactions to the decision to rehabilitate the young people, their sentences are sent to the Court of Appeal.
