Jio Platforms breaks into global top 20 in latest WIPO patents rankings; climbs 320 places on coveted chart
New Delhi, June 14 (PTI) Reliance Industries’ technology arm Jio Platforms has entered the global top 20 in the latest Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) rankings released recently by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), according to a statement on Sunday.
Jio Platforms (JPL) has risen 320 places on the list for 2025, making it one of the fastest-rising innovators globally and placing it among a select group of global technology leaders, including Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, LG, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple and Microsoft.
With this, JPL became the only Indian technology innovator to make it to the coveted list of Global Top 20.
Jio said it ranked the top PCT applicants based on the data published in the report.
Jio’s patent portfolio has a sharp focus on next-generation digital technologies, including 5G, advanced 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence, AI native networks, cloud native platforms, intelligent automation, radio access, core network software, edge intelligence, fixed wireless access, network slicing and digital service infrastructure.
Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani stated that JPL’s rise to the global top 20 in the WIPO PCT rankings reflects years of efforts to transform into a deep technology company.
“This demonstrates the pace of innovation in multiple advanced technologies at Jio, which will continue to grow in the coming years. I would like to dedicate this achievement to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, which envisages India becoming a creator, owner and exporter of technology to the world,” he said.
He added: “We are proud to contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a global deep technology hub.”
Jio’s rise to 20th place, with 320 positions, comes in a year when global PCT applications increased by less than one percent globally.
“The WIPO ranking is an important external recognition of Jio Platforms’ R&D productivity and depth of intellectual property,” the company said in its statement. he said, adding that this firmly places Indian innovation in the global technology creation landscape across many cutting-edge technologies.
Jio Platforms reported that it had cumulatively filed 6,817 patent applications as of March 31, 2026. Of these, 2,393 patents were filed in India and 4,424 in foreign jurisdictions. According to the company, a total of 1,009 patents have been granted globally, including 538 in India and 471 in international markets.
