Golders Green victim slams Starmer and says it’s a ‘miracle’ he survived | UK | News

Speaking from his hospital bed, one of two victims of a suspected terror attack said it was a “miracle” he survived.
Two men, aged 76 and 34, were stabbed in Golders Green shortly after 11am on Wednesday, April 29. One of the victims, Shilome Rand, was stabbed in the chest as she left the synagogue. The attacks followed a series of arson attacks targeting London’s Jewish community.
Rand, 34, who is being treated in hospital for his injuries, told ITV News: “People are really worried, people are scared, people are uncomfortable walking on the street, people are openly accusing the government of not doing anything about what’s going on.
“Our society has been suffering from these types of attacks for the last few months. And now it’s continuing and trying to take people’s lives, and it’s truly terrible.”
“The government, they’re the ones who can take care of the problems. And they’re not doing their job.”
While it was initially feared that Shilome would require emergency surgery, doctors later determined that her injury was less severe than thought.
“Thank God I’m getting better and my injury isn’t as bad as they first thought,” he said.
“I’m here and I can talk and what happened to me today is truly a miracle.”
The second victim, 76-year-old Moshe Shine, was attacked at a bus stop and taken to hospital. Disturbing video footage of the shocking incident shows the suspect walking away before lunging at the 76-year-old victim and carrying out the attack.
Another video shows the suspect approaching two Met officers and a volunteer from the Jewish security organization Shomrim, armed with a knife.
According to the Guardian, a police officer used Pava spray to subdue the suspect before he was tackled to the ground with a stun gun.
The suspect falls to the ground after the police kick him in the head and yell at him to “drop the knife”, while he tries to hold his hands by handcuffing them behind his back.
A member of the public can be seen assisting two officers and at one point sitting on top of the suspect.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “The anti-Semitic attack in Golders Green is absolutely appalling. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.”
The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Government’s Cobra crisis committee following the attack and vowed to act quickly: “I will be holding a meeting with the criminal justice agencies tomorrow to make sure we have effective and speedy justice in these cases.
“But we have to be aware of the levels of anxiety and concern that I know the Jewish community has in terms of feeling very exposed and vulnerable, feeling like they have to hide their identity, sometimes in health care, sometimes in school, in the streets where they live.”
