Goldie Hawn says kids today lack ‘grit’ during ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ appearance

While thinking about her own childhood, Goldie Hawn can’t help but wonder why today’s children lack “courage.”
Recently “Jimmy Kimmel Live!Talking about the freedom he had in his childhood, the 80-year-old actor said, “There were no tablets,” and noted that he and his friends had to find different ways to have fun.
“We realized we were in trouble. We had kids together,” he said. “There was no one looking at us, no one following us. We were alive and thinking about having the best day, and I’ll never forget that. And kids today don’t do that.”
The actor shared that his new book, “After-School Kindness Team,” which aims to teach children mindfulness, kindness, and joy, “shows how kids can be together, relate together, solve problems together” and “shows how you create more courage and critical thinking in your prefrontal cortex.”

In the book, characters can also be seen taking “brain breaks” that teach young readers how to “calm themselves” when dealing with anxious thoughts.
Hawn has always been passionate about promoting mental health awareness, creating the MindUp initiative through the Goldie Hawn Foundation in 2003. The MindUp curriculum supports students’ social and emotional development through neuroscience, mindfulness, and positive psychology.
During a recent interview People“I wanted kids to feel really joyful,” the “Death Becomes Him” star explained what inspired him to create MindUp 20 years ago.
“Then I looked at the kids’ moods and it wasn’t good. Our kids were in a really bad situation,” he said. “That really scared me because we had kids committing suicide as young as 10. Ten, [and] They take their lives. It was the third leading cause of death between the ages of 10 and 15, and now the situation is even worse. What I meant was that I had to do something.”

He later added that he was shocked to learn how little students knew about their own brains, noting that the program works with students from kindergarten through eighth grade to understand their brains and regulate their emotions.
Hawn has previously explained her philosophy on raising children as “Dan Buettner PodcastHe said in January that he disagreed with “the pampering of the American mind.”
“They shouldn’t be able to get what they want. They should be fighting,” he said. “I didn’t like the tensions with Katie. I wasn’t going out and buying her a bunch of clothes all the time because she was running out of clothes and I felt like it was a crazy waste of money. And I’m telling you, she would make clothes that were nobody’s business.”
Hawn got her big break as an actress on the sketch comedy show “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In,” which earned her an Emmy Award. Her star power continued to grow in 1970 when she won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in “Cactus Flower.”

She later starred in a number of iconic films including “Private Benjamin”, “Overboard”, “Death Becomes” and “The First Wives Club”. However, Hawn hasn’t starred in a movie in six years.
“It’s about the content,” he said. People in a new interview. “It has to do with the content. Acting for acting’s sake, taking things… I read a lot of shows, a lot of scripts I didn’t like or didn’t think I would fit.”
She last appeared on the screen in 2020 as Mrs. Claus in “The Christmas Chronicles 2” with her partner Kurt Russell.

“The one thing about acting is that I’ve done it and I’ve had a great career, and I honor that,” the legendary actress said. “I’d really like to get material that could be like: ‘Oh my God, I want this so bad. This is so funny. He’s so crazy. He’s so interesting.’ But I didn’t come across it.”

“If someone came up with a really great, funny script… I think it would be great,” he added.
