Google Confirms AirDrop Expansion for Android Devices

Google has confirmed plans to expand AirDrop compatibility to all Android devices, pointing to the expansion of cross-platform file sharing. The update allows file sharing from Android to iPhone, building on November 2025 AirDrop and Quick Share interoperability. Originally limited to the Pixel 10 series, AirDrop on Android is now slated to reach wider hardware via software updates. Code analysis showed that a standalone interoperability implementation was listed on Google Play, indicating broader support. In a briefing with Android Authority, Eric Kay, Android’s vice president of engineering, said the team is working to release the update on iPhone, iPad, and Mac this year. The initiative is in line with Google’s effort to simplify the transition from iPhone to Android.
