502. This is a mistake
Many users reported seeing the “502. This is an error” message when trying to join meetings, and shared screenshots of the issue on X as the outage spread.
The 502 error in Google Meet is a “Bad Gateway” message. It occurs when Google’s servers or the systems connecting your request to the service temporarily fail to respond properly. In simple terms it means:
- There is a problem with Google Meet’s servers
- The problem is usually with Google, not your device
- The platform cannot currently upload or connect you to a meeting
This is a temporary server outage and is usually resolved once Google stabilizes the service.

While many questioned the reason for the sudden outage, others shared error screens and expressed that they were unable to attend important sessions.
