The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday, November 6, 2025, registered a case to investigate the alleged murder of Aqil Akhter, son of former Director General of Police Punjab (DGP) Muhammad Mustafa.

“The FIR was registered on the allegations that Aqil Akhter, son of former DGP of Punjab Muhammad Mustafa and former Disabled Minister of Punjab Razia Sultana and currently resident of Sector 4 near Mansa Devi Mandir, Panchkula, died under suspicious circumstances on October 16, 2025,” CBI said.

According to the agency, there was growing discontent between Aqil Akhter and his family. On August 27, he had allegedly posted a video on social media in which he stated that he had “discovered illicit relations between his father and his wife and also that his entire family, including his mother and sister, were conspiring to kill him or implicate him in a fake case.”

The Haryana government has requested the Center to hand over the investigation to the CBI. The case was earlier registered at Mansa Devi Complex in Haryana’s Panchkula District.

Following a notification from the Department of Personnel and Training, the CBI registered the case against Mrs. Sultana, sister and husband of the deceased, Mr. Mustafa, the agency said.

As previously reported, Aqil died due to a suspected drug overdose. “Frankly [a] foul situation. “Given the previous video testimony and the serious allegations made herein, the cause of death requires a thorough, fair and impartial investigation,” he said.

While touching on family-related issues, he said in the video that he experienced a lot of stress and psychological trauma because of this.

“I feel like they are going to file a fake case against me… Their plan is to get me falsely imprisoned or even kill me, but they fail to do so,” he claimed in the video. He also claimed that family members often told him that he was delusional and hallucinated. “They are trying to create a false narrative,” he claimed.
