Govt appoints Lt Gen N S Raja Subramani as next Chief of Defence Staff

The Center has appointed Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (retd.) as the next Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) with effect from the date of assumption of charge until further orders.

The official order stated that Lieutenant General Raja Subramani will also serve as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Military Affairs.

Gen Anil Chauhan, current CDS, will complete his term on May 30, 2026.

Lieutenant General Raja Subramani has been serving as Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat since September 1, 2025.

Prior to that, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff from July 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.

He also served as General Officer Commanding General of Army Central Command from March 2023 to June 2024.
