A head constable attached to Kanjikovil police station in Perundurai subdivision of Erode district has been suspended after CCTV footage showing him mistreating workers and damaging property at a fast food outlet went viral on social media.
The police officer, identified as Mohan Kumar, was on night patrol duty within Kanjikovil police station limits on Sunday night, February 8, 2026, when he noticed a fast food shop operating at Four Roads around 10.18 pm. Disturbed that the shop remained open, he entered the building and asked the employees, all of whom were migrant workers, to close the shop. The footage shows the police officer damaging items in the store, using abusive language and trying to attack workers.
The employees reportedly told the police officer that the store had permission to operate until 23:00, stated that they were only employees, and demanded that the store owner take care of any problems. As they tried to close the store, the police officer allegedly continued to shout profanities before leaving.
The entire incident was recorded by the store’s security camera with sound system. After the footage surfaced online and triggered public outrage, demands emerged for action against the police officer. Following an investigation, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha issued the suspension order against Mohan Kumar on Monday, February 9.
