Green Signal for 132 KV Power Substation at Kisan SEZ in Nellore

Nellore: Power minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Tuesday announced that a 132 kV power substation will be set up at Kisan SEZ in Nellore and work will begin shortly. He said the project will significantly strengthen energy supply in the region and support industrial growth.

The Minister inaugurated the 32/11 kV power substation constructed at a cost of `3.37 crore at Panchedu village in Buchireddypalem mandal of Kovur Assembly constituency. Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy attended the event.

Speaking at the meeting, the minister said that another substation was built in the constituency, costing more than 3 million. He also laid the foundation stone of the DE office building, which will be built at a cost of 4 billion.

Ravi Kumar said that various power infrastructure works have been implemented under the Renewed Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to correct the mistakes of the previous government and gradually reduce the losses of around ₹ 30,000 crore incurred by the power sector.

He claimed that while the previous government increased electricity tariffs by nine times, the current government is working to reduce electricity charges and reduce per unit costs by 1.19 paise in the coming days. He added that providing quality and uninterrupted power supply to farmers and consumers remains the main objective of the energy department.

The minister rejected what he described as false propaganda against power distribution companies, especially Visakhapatnam Discom. He said that electricity dues of Rs 500-600 crore are expected from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant even though the government has provided financial support of Rs 13,000 crore to the plant.

He also announced that vacancies in the power department will be filled soon and steps have been taken to recruit around 500 assistant engineers after consultations with the Prime Minister. He added that 10 to 12 new substations will be set up in Nellore district to solve low voltage issues and ensure reliable power supply.

Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy termed the inauguration of substations in Kovur as a positive development and appreciated MLA Prashanthi Reddy’s efforts to develop the constituency. MLA Prashanthi Reddy said the government has reduced electricity tariffs for hydro farmers and assured more infrastructure development to support agriculture and industry.

Roop Kumar Yadav, in-charge mayor of Nellore, welcomed the commissioning of Panchedu substation and stated that it will alleviate power-related problems faced by the local people.
