Easter bank holiday weekend weather forecast revealed with yellow warnings issued across UK
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across large parts of the UK over Easter; This may be a disappointment for many hoping to enjoy the bank holiday weekend.
Yellow weather warnings for wind are in effect for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England on Saturday and Sunday.
The Met Office has warned that “very strong winds” will blow northeastwards across northwestern parts of the UK from 6pm on Saturday and move into the North Sea by Sunday.
The exact path, intensity and shape of what the forecaster described as a “rapidly deepening area of low pressure” remains unclear. The Met Office’s forecast is that peak winds of 50-60mph will be possible fairly widely, with 60-70mph possible in more open areas, while very strong winds are expected in parts of Scotland, particularly the west, with a slight chance of winds of 80-90mph being possible in open areas for a period.
Strong winds may cause some damage and disruption to travel, there is a “slight chance” of power outages and mobile phone coverage may be affected.
A second wind warning will remain in force in Orkney and the Shetland Islands until the end of Sunday as winds gradually ease over Easter Sunday. The Met Office warned that the islands could experience wind gusts of 60-70 mph, with some exposed areas seeing a slight chance of 75-85 mph for a period.
