Labour’s soft-on-crime stance could soon see the ringleader of a vile grooming ring walk free after serving less than a third of his prison sentence.

Arshid Hussain was one of the men jailed for the first time in 2016 after being convicted of 23 child sex offenses through the Rotherham grooming gang. In addition to his 35-year prison sentence, Hussain was sentenced to a concurrent seven-year sentence in 2017 for further misconduct charges. But now he could walk freely to make room in the prison.

One of his victims, Sammy Woodhouse, who proudly campaigned against sexual exploitation after waiving his right to anonymity, was officially informed that his abuser could only be released from prison after serving 10 years. Sammy became pregnant with her first son at the age of 14 after being taken into care and raped by the pedophile ringleader.

“He was sentenced to 35 years in prison in early 2017 and described as one of the most dangerous men in the UK.

“He was later convicted of other crimes. His brother, Basharat Hussain, is also being considered for release. Frankly, I cannot express in words how disgusted I am with the British government.”

Although justice sources insisted “no decision has been taken” on the early release of any offenders, Ms Woodhouse released a copy of the letter saying Hussain would receive further notice in August if he was released.

The document, signed by a Justice Department “victim liaison officer,” added: “I understand that this information may be difficult to obtain, and we recognize the lasting impact the crime may have had on you.”

Under the Criminal Code of 2026, murderers and rapists will be released from prison early, and 43,000 criminals will be released from prison completely. Many will get out after spending only a third of their sentence in prison. Those sentenced to four years or more in prison will be released only after serving 50 percent of their sentence behind bars.

Miss Woodhouse was first assaulted at the age of 14 and became pregnant after being lured with drink and drugs, raped and threatened at gunpoint. The Hussein brothers, who poured petrol on their victims, are said to have “owned” the South Yorkshire town for more than 10 years.

Some girls were just 11 years old when they were raped, tied up, tortured and passed between abusers. Ringleader Arshid was sentenced to 35 years in prison, Bannaras to 19 years, and Basharat to 25 years.

Shadow justice minister Dr. Kieran Mullan said: “The British public will be rightly disgusted by Labour’s plans to release rapists and babysitters from prison early.

“They were warned over and over again what kind of vile criminals this would allow out of prison, but they didn’t listen.

“The victims are now paying the price for this. It must not be allowed to happen this way. This is a terrible affront to justice for every single victim.”
