As per the new rate structure, a standard haircut will cost Rs 180, while the shave has been fixed at Rs 120.
Customers who opt for beard trimming will have to pay Rs 150. The price of head massage will be Rs 180, while the price of hair washing will now be Rs 120. For premium grooming services, facials will start from Rs 700, while hair spa will cost Rs 600.
Why Did Barbers Decided to Raise Prices?
The rate revision comes as salon operators face rising expenses for products and materials used in daily operations. According to office holders of Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal, the cost burden has increased significantly in recent months.
The organization says developments in West Asia and wider economic uncertainties are affecting the prices of many products needed to run barber shops and beauty salons, forcing operators to review service fees earlier than planned.
Mid-Term Revision Breaks Up Usual Practice
Announcing the decision, Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal officer Shyam Askarkar said, “We usually revise the rates in January after a gap of two years. However, due to the sharp increase in the prices of consumables and other materials used in halls, this time we had to revise them in the medium term.”
His remarks underscore an unusual departure from the community’s normal pricing cycle, which is typically revised only every two years.
More Than One Lakh Barber Shops Likely to Be Affected
It is estimated that there are more than one lakh barber shops in Maharashtra. The revised rates are expected to affect a large portion of neighborhood halls across the state.
However, the organization clarified that it does not represent premium or luxury sedans. Such establishments usually charge much higher fees and haircut prices usually start from around Rs 500.
