Harry and Meghan ‘may feel regret’ over Royal exit says royal expert | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

It was the seismic announcement that sent shockwaves through the Royal Family and reverberated around the world. Six years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan dropped the bombshell that they were stepping back from royal family staff to “carve out a progressive new role” within the institution as they pursued financial independence.

The decision is said to have caught the royal family, including the late Queen, completely off guard, prompting Her Majesty to issue an extraordinary statement confirming that the couple would cease official engagements. But no one could have predicted the dramatic chain of events that followed as the Sussex couple moved to California, gave an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey criticizing the Royal Family, and then made further accusations in a divisive Netflix documentary.

Today, Harry remains largely estranged from both his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, as he continues his philanthropic efforts. Meanwhile, Meghan is focusing on her lifestyle initiative, As Ever.

Given the unfortunate deterioration in family relations, former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond suggests the Sussexes may have some regret about how their departure from the Royals came about.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “If you look back, the whole thing was incredibly melodramatic. In a breathtaking video filmed on the plane leaving the UK, Harry gave the impression they were almost running for their lives.”

“Obviously there were many angry moments and, with the benefit of hindsight, they may feel they could have done things differently. “I’m sure Harry would never have wanted to hurt his grandmother, but he put her in the most jealous position and she took a decisive stand.

“We know now that he feels life is precious and short, and that in an ideal world he would love to reconcile with his father and brother.

“He says he doesn’t want to fight anymore. But the road to getting back together is never going to be easy when there’s so much anger and pain.”

The anniversary of ‘Megxit’ also comes with an important date for the Duke of Sussex. On Saturday it will be three years since his controversial autobiography Spare hit shelves.

The tell-all book lays bare the shocking events, including an alleged physical confrontation between Harry and Prince William at Kensington Palace, a worrying encounter at Prince Philip’s funeral and a rift between two couples – Kate and Meghan. The Duke appeared to spare no one in his unflinching account of the life of the Royal family.

It appears that communication between Harry and William has been non-existent since Spare’s release and there are no signs of thaw in their relationship.

But recently Harry suggested he was open to mending bridges with his family. There was a brief face-to-face meeting with King Charles during his visit to England last year; They met for the first time in 19 months.

But while Harry is expected to return to the UK within a few weeks, reports suggest a reunion with his father is unlikely. Jennie continued: “Things have clearly become much worse because of all the revelations, accusations and betrayals of trust in Harry’s book. “He betrayed his family’s trust in him and that’s a notoriously difficult thing to regain.

“He seems ready to forgive and forget now, but life isn’t that easy. It’s good for him to feel like he’s aired all his grievances, so he feels better now and it’s time to move on. “It doesn’t always work that way.

“But he and Meghan seem to have settled pretty well in California. They wanted freedom, independence, and the ability to earn a living. All of that, plus they had two adorable kids, a huge house, a celebrity lifestyle, and a warm climate. What’s not to love?”
