Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Ghat Electrification To Boost Bengaluru–Mangaluru Rail Link: Chowta

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta said that the completion of electrification works on the challenging 55 km Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya ghat section is an important milestone in strengthening the railway infrastructure in the coastal region.
Describing the project as a long-pending demand of the region, Chowta said the electrification of the ghat section will significantly increase rail connectivity between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
“Electrification of the Ghat section is expected to significantly accelerate rail infrastructure development in this part of the state, facilitating coastal freight movement, port operations, smoother train services and increased commercial activities,” Chowta said in a press release. he said.
The MP said the electrification of the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya section will provide a major boost to the railway infrastructure in the coastal belt and address one of the most critical bottlenecks in the Bengaluru-Mangaluru rail corridor.
He noted that the Ghat section is among the most technically challenging sections in the rail network and electrification will improve the efficiency and reliability of train services.
Captain Chowta expressed his gratitude on behalf of the people of the region to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways V Somanna for taking special interest in the implementation of the project. He also thanked the railway officials and staff who worked under difficult technical conditions to complete this historic project within the stipulated time.
The MP said that improving the Mangaluru-Bengaluru rail link has been a priority since he took office. He recalled that soon after his election, he submitted a detailed memorandum to the Ministry of Railways for doubling and electrification of the Padil-Subrahmanya-Sakleshpur route.
He had also raised questions in the Lok Sabha on measures to increase capacity, speed and operational efficiency in the corridor.
During debates in Parliament and meetings with railway officials, Chowta constantly emphasized the strategic importance of the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route in terms of both passenger and freight traffic, including cargo movement from the New Mangaluru Port to the hinterland. He had also appealed to the government to expedite modernization work in the ghat section, citing its role in supporting the economic growth of the coastal region.
