Hayden Panettiere’s ex Brian Hickerson has shared a chilling story about their tumultuous relationship as he admitted to being abusive to the star.

The 36-year-old Nashville actor and Hickerson had an on-and-off relationship from 2018 to 2022 that was plagued by domestic violence incidents and arrests.

Hickerson talked about their troubled romance and Panettiere’s upcoming memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in a video interview. TMZ on Tuesday.

‘I got into a very dark place, man, drugs, alcohol,’ he recalled of their relationship. ‘Oh my God, the Almighty is 1.80 tall on paper but 1.70 tall in real life. I mean, come on.’

Hickerson also said she thinks alleged abusers are the ones who need to hear stories like hers the most.

‘My biggest thing about domestic violence is that I don’t think it’s taught early enough in life. I was never taught what domestic violence was in my life. ‘Maybe if I had done it at an early age, maybe I wouldn’t have done what I did.’

When asked what he thought of Panettiere calling their relationship “abusive” and “traumatic,” Hickerson said, “I think that speaks for itself.” So I got arrested for harassing her.’

As for Panettiere’s claim that she chose not to share some details of what happened between them with her friends out of embarrassment, ‘I can’t blame her friends for being angry with me.’

Hickerson admitted that he sometimes thought about marrying Panettiere in the future, stating that he missed her “every day” and that she was “the sweetest thing in the world.”

Hickerson was sentenced to 45 days in county jail after pleading no contest in April 2021 to two felonies of injuring his wife or girlfriend.

He received four years of probation, was ordered to attend 52 domestic violence classes and received a five-year restraining order requiring him to stay away from Panettiere.

Speaking about her relationship and memories, the actress recently told Us Weekly: ‘It’s such an embarrassing subject. ‘I’ve always seen myself as a very resilient and strong woman.’
