HC directs Collector to grant permission for Pamba Boat Race on February 1

The Kerala High Court has directed the Pathanamthitta District Collector to grant permission to organize the Pamba Boat Race on February 1.

Chief Justice N. Nagaresh said that the District Police Chief should deploy adequate number of police personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the event and maintain law and order and Pamba Boat Racing Club should bear the expenses related to their deployment.

The directive comes after the district administration allegedly refused to allow the club to be given a revised date to hold the race. The government lawyer stated that the club’s request could be considered.

The boat race could not be held on September 19, 2025 because the Champions Boat League tournament was held on the same day. It was scheduled to be held on December 28 and again on February 1.

The petition was sent to hearing on February 20.
