England’s batting shone again as the home team booked a place in the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a 38-run win over Scotland at Headingley.

Sophia Dunkley ensured injured skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt was not missed and took advantage of three catches to make 57 on her return to the side.

Alice Capsey hit 40 and Heather Knight 25 but most impressive was their storming, unbroken partnership of 61 balls with just 21 from Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson.

Together they took England from 141-5 after 17 overs to 200-5 after 20 overs; While Kemp remained unbeaten with a score of 39 from 16 balls, Gibson could not score 30 from 11 balls.

After a nervy chase against Ireland in their second match, it was reminiscent of England’s 219-1 performance against Sri Lanka on the opening night of the tournament.

The Kemp-Gibson fireworks pushed the target beyond Scotland and despite an admirable effort, they finished on 162-7, the second highest score in T20 internationals.

A win in one of England’s final two matches against the West Indies on Wednesday or New Zealand next Saturday will likely be enough to secure a top-two finish.

Scotland, which has one win and two defeats, will face New Zealand on Tuesday.
