Health officials warn of measles exposure at major airport | World | News

Travelers at a major airport have been warned about possible exposure to measles.

New Jersey health officials have warned that a person has been confirmed to have the highly contagious disease after international travel and transit through Newark Liberty International Airport.

According to CBS News, officials stated that people who were in Newark Liberty’s Terminal B between 05:30 and 09:00 on April 14 may have been exposed to measles.

Officials also warned of possible exposure at the Hackensack University Medical Center pediatric emergency room on April 18.

According to reports, the main symptoms include high fever, coughing, sneezing, red and painful watery eyes and rash. Daily Star.

Health officials stated that symptoms may appear in those infected with the virus until May 11.

No linked cases were identified.

Measles can spread through airborne particles or through the mucus or saliva of an infected person. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area.

The MMR vaccine is considered the most reliable way to protect against measles and prevent complications associated with the disease. Separately, parents in the UK are being urged to check their children’s vaccination records as measles continues to spread across the country, with hundreds of cases already confirmed this year and fears of a new outbreak grow. Earlier this month, The Mirror reported that the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) had issued a “protect yourself and your little ones” warning directing families to updated guidance on symptoms and vaccination, amid growing concern about falling vaccine rates.

It follows latest figures showing nearly 235 cases of measles have been confirmed in England in the first weeks of 2026, with infections now being recorded in every region.
