Heatwave health alert issued to all 8 regions of England in shock map | Weather | News

A yellow alert indicating a “possible” risk of death and higher likelihood of water-related incidents for vulnerable groups was issued for the West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, South East and South West at 9am on 8 July and will remain in force until 9pm on 12 July.

A yellow alert indicating a “possibility” of significant impact was also issued for Yorkshire and the Humber, North West England and North East England during the same time period.

It comes after the UK officially entered its third heatwave in as many months, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 35C in some areas later this week, according to the Met Office.

Parts of southern England could see top temperatures of 32C on Tuesday, rising to 33C on Wednesday and 34C on Thursday; Highs of 35C forecast can be read for isolated areas on Friday and Saturday.

The highest temperature on Monday was recorded at 34 degrees in Teddington, south-west London, the national forecaster said.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates urged people to “take the usual precautions against heat and sun”.

He said: “Parts of the UK are entering heatwave conditions: this is the third heatwave experienced in the UK so far this year.

“However, unlike the May and June heat waves, we do not expect this heat wave to break records.

“Temperatures this week are not expected to reach the highs we witnessed last month, but southern parts of England in particular are likely to see low 30s for a few days and a few places could reach 34-35C later this week.”

The Met Office has also warned that Britain could experience “tropical nights” later this week where temperatures will not fall below 20C.
