The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a change in weather conditions in Northwest India; Heatwave conditions are expected to ease over the next three days due to westerly disturbances and easterly winds; In addition, there are storm, strong wind and hail warnings in various regions.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures hovering at or above 45°C are expected to drop sharply between May 28 and May 30, bringing much-needed relief to many northern and central states.

To talk MOMENT IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava said on Thursday, May 28, 2026: “If we look at northwest India, maximum temperatures primarily remain high and hover around 45°C or above.”
“Our forecast indicates that during the next three days, storm activity is expected in the Western Himalayan region and adjacent plains under the influence of Western Disturbance and simultaneous arrival of easterly winds over the plains of Northwest India.” Mr. Srivastava added that a sharp drop in temperatures is expected in the coming days.
“As a result, a drop in maximum temperatures of 5°C to 8°C and up to 10°C in some isolated pockets is expected between May 28 and May 30. As a result, significant relief from heatwave conditions prevailing in regions like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is expected,” he added.
However, the IMD also warned of intense weather activity, including high wind speeds and storms. “Wind speeds in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas can be quite high, ranging from 60 to 70 kilometers per hour and potentially up to 80 kilometers per hour,” Mr. Srivastava said. He also warned that even stronger winds may be experienced in some parts of Uttar Pradesh.

“Wind speeds in certain parts of Uttar Pradesh may vary between 80 and 90 kilometers per hour, sometimes even reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour. Hailstorm warnings have been issued, especially for the western regions covering Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh,” he added and advised people to be careful.
