Intermittent heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds caused floods and traffic disruptions in various parts of Kerala on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The higher reaches of southern Thiruvananthapuram and northern Kozhikode districts experienced widespread rains and an overcast climate throughout the day. Heavy downpour, which lasted for about an hour, caused waterlogging on the Thiruvananthapuram-Thenkasi road.

Road traffic was also disrupted for a while at Elavattom on Palode road due to flooding in the evening.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in four districts – Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode – predicting very heavy rains. Other districts were put on yellow alert.

Following the heavy rain, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) asked people living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods to move to safer places as per the instructions of the relevant authorities.

SDMA said in a statement that residents living along river banks and downstream of dams should also relocate in advance, following official instructions, considering the possible danger.

Orange alert indicates very heavy rain between 11 cm and 20 cm, and yellow alert indicates heavy rain between 6 cm and 11 cm.
