Heavy Rain to Lash Telangana for Next Seven Days; IMD Issues Thunderstorm, Lightning Alerts

Hyderabad: While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across Telangana in the next seven days, heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are expected to affect many regions by July 3.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the state; Isolated heavy rainfall is expected on most days.

IMD has issued heavy rain warning for June 27 for Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts. In addition to thunderstorms, strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km per hour are also expected in these regions; Winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km per hour may also affect some other regions, including Hyderabad.

Heavy rain is expected in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool and many northern and eastern districts on June 28. Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in all parts of Telangana.

IMD also predicts isolated heavy rains in northern, eastern and central regions including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Jagtial, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad on June 29 and June 30.

From July 1 to July 3, showers are expected in isolated places across the state, as well as thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 30-40 km per hour.

The weather office advised people to be careful during the storm, to avoid sheltering under trees during lightning and to follow official weather advice. Farmers have also been asked to follow the updated forecasts while planning their agricultural activities.
