Help desk volunteer stabbed at Thalassery General Hospital

Panic spread at Thalassery General Hospital on Tuesday after an IRPC (Initiative for Rehabilitation and Palliative Care) helpdesk volunteer was allegedly stabbed by a teenager near the hospital pharmacy.

The injured person was identified as 50-year-old KP Valsaraj. He was injured with a knife on the left side of his abdomen.

Police said the attacker, who was reportedly a drug addict, was detained and later arrested. Valsaraj’s treatment continues in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The Kannur district unit of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) condemned the incident and expressed concern over repeated incidents of attacks in government hospitals.

The association reiterated its long-standing demand for the deployment of the Special Industrial Security Force in major hospitals and armed police personnel in all institutions with emergency departments. KGMOA also called on the government to establish permanent police assistance posts in hospitals dealing with casualty cases.
