Henry Nowak 999 call captures Vickrum Digwa lying to police | News

The full 999 call in which murderer Vickrum Digwa claimed Henry Nowak racially abused him has been published.

Police body camera footage shows Mr Nowak being handcuffed on his deathbed after Digwa told officers he had racially abused him. “I was stabbed,” Mr. Nowak says, to which a police officer responds, “I don’t think you were stabbed, man.”

Audio recordings released by the Crown Prosecution Service show Digwa telling police that Mr Nowak was “drunk” and that he “punched” him.

“He started recording me, I grabbed his phone, then he punched me, pushed me and my hijab came off, then he started grabbing my head so I grabbed him and then he started pushing me and attacking me further,” Digwa added.

In sentencing, Judge William Mousley KC said Mr Nowak “was not drunk but may have been slightly affected by the small amount of alcohol he had consumed in the last few hours”.

Vickrum Digwa’s brother, Gurpreet Digwa, told the call operator that his brother was the victim of racist abuse from Mr. Nowak.

“We are Sikhs and wear turbans and he attacked my brother,” says Gurpreet Digwa.

Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in prison for the murder of Mr Nowak at Southampton Crown Court on Monday, June 1.
