Henry Nowak’s killer ‘cowering in cell as he fears Ian Huntley style attack’ | UK | News

Henry Nowak’s killer refuses to leave his cell for fear he will be attacked like child murderer Ian Huntley. Vickrum Digwa is currently being held at HMP Frankland following his conviction for murder.
HMP Frankland is the prison where Huntley, who murdered schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, was killed by a fellow inmate. According to sources in the prison, Digwa remains cowering in his cell and refuses to integrate with the inmates. A source told Sun: “He’s there because he’s terrified and refuses to settle on the wing.
“He was told he was going to the A-wing and he knew that was where Huntley was killed and he said, ‘No.’
“He said he couldn’t be kept there safely, which is true because there are already rumors about him in prison.
“They can’t get him to move to the wing and he can stay in the ‘seg’ for a very long time.”
Digwa was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in prison on June 1 for the murder of 18-year-old Mr Nowak in Southampton after he falsely claimed Mr Nowak had racially abused him.
Anger erupted after police released a three-minute body-worn video showing Mr Nowak, of Chafford Hundred, Essex, being handcuffed moments before he lost consciousness and subsequently died.
New footage has been released of Digwa telling officers at the scene what were described in court as “bad lies” about Mr Nowak, saying he was drunk and had racially attacked him.
He also denies any knowledge of Mr Nowak’s injury when asked.
In the footage, Digwa tells the officer: “I was literally walking in and I saw him. Then he lunged at me. I told him, ‘Obviously you’re drunk.’ I could smell the alcohol, just like you can smell the alcohol.”
He goes on to say that Mr. Nowak called him a racial slur before telling Digwa that he was a “bad man” and that when Mr. Nowak began recording him, Digwa responded, “Yes, I am a bad man.”
She continues: “Honestly, then I pushed him, then he caught me, then he grabbed my hijab and started pulling my hair, he started grabbing my hair, like he was punching me or something.”
After being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Digwa told the officer: “I was racially attacked.”
