Trump’s peace deal success muddied by Letitia James indictment

President Trump makes many threats.

Sometimes they get results, sometimes they don’t.

And sometimes it’s just fuss. Especially if it’s an online post saying the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois should go to jail for resisting him about sending troops to the Windy City.

But his relentless personality, backed by the world’s most powerful army, may be too powerful.

TRUMP WAS NOMINATED FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE DUE TO THE ISRAEL-HAMAS FIRE AGREEMENT

It is difficult to overstate how remarkable a feat Trump has achieved in bringing Israel and Hamas together by bringing an end to their brutal and bloody two-year war.

It’s fair to say that no other president could have achieved this. Joe Biden certainly couldn’t. In fact, not since Jimmy Carter staged his marathon Camp David speeches with Anwar Sadar and Menachem Begin has a president brokered peace between the Israelis and one of their Arab enemies.

Trump personally designed the Abraham Accords with the help of Jared Kushner during his first term, which were joined by the UAE and Bahrain, later joined by Sudan and Morocco. This gave him the experience of tackling this extremely difficult challenge and spurring further Nobel Peace Prize speculation.

Now some quick caveats are in order. The president said he expected the remaining 20 hostages to be returned on Monday or Tuesday, but Hamas terrorists could come up with new objections that would derail the train.

Reporters were asking questions about Phase 2, which would include returning the bodies of dead hostages, but the president wisely deflected those questions.

So the champagne cork hasn’t popped yet.

EXCLUSIVE: ISRAEL AMBASSADOR SAYS THERE WILL BE PEACE IN GAZA UNLESS HAMAS SURRENDERS AND DISARMS ALL 48 HOSTAGES

It was probably these reservations that caused news anchors and reporters to have serious facial expressions while covering the latest developments. But I think it was more than that.

Some of these journalists don’t exactly support Trump. So it is not easy for them to shower him with credit. They say the right words – tremendous success, etc. – but body language sends a different message.

Look, Israel has been at war with surrounding countries, that is, in a cold war, since its founding in 1948.

And more broadly, Jews and Arabs have had hostile relations for centuries. In the Bible, there is a call to Pharaoh to “let my people go”.

There are still very important unanswered questions about who will govern Gaza in the future, most of which has turned into a pile of rubble. Israel suffered a brutal massacre on October 7, but also found itself increasingly isolated, with more than 60,000 Palestinians killed. Many Israelis and American Jews believe that Bibi Netanyahu is allowing the war to drag on to preserve his political standing.

Trump had to pressure Bibi to accept the peace deal, essentially threatening the United States to walk away.

Hamas is now asked to surrender by surrendering its weapons. Trump said he would come together with other countries in a peace council to prevent the war from restarting. But those details remain unclear beyond the fact that terrorists will no longer be responsible, as they have been since Israel’s voluntary withdrawal from the Gaza Strip almost two decades ago.

GRAND JURY INDICTS NY AG LETITIA JAMES ON BANK FRAUD CHARGES IN VIRGINIA FEDERAL COURT

Just as the President was basking in well-deserved accolades for fundamentally reshaping the Middle East, a new development occurred.

A grand jury indicted New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, for mortgage fraud.

In sum, this highlights the duality of the Trump presidency.

This seems like a petty move, and James said in a video, “We will aggressively fight these baseless accusations.”

Like the recent indictment against James Comey, the indictment was returned only because Trump replaced his U.S. attorney in the eastern district of Virginia with White House aide and stalwart Lindsey Halligan, who had no prosecutorial experience.

Trump said in a memo to his attorney general, Pam Bondi, that James, like Comey, was “very culpable.” The Wall Street Journal says the “Pam” memo was intended to remain secret.

Career prosecutors had decided there wasn’t enough evidence to charge James, who sued candidate Trump over real estate inflation, leading to fines reaching half a billion dollars; It was so outrageous that the appeals court overturned the sentence. James also won his job by promising to go after Trump, calling him an “illegitimate” president.

James has owned a home in Brooklyn for decades and bought a home in Norfolk, Virginia, with his nephew two years ago.

Career prosecutors found little evidence that James was dishonest in completing the paperwork.

The media spotlight instantly shifted from Trump the global peacemaker to Trump the crusader, waging a dogged campaign of revenge against his enemies.
