BSF Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj, who displayed an extraordinary display of strength and courage during Operation Sindoor and struggled with severe injuries, shouted “Jawano, aaj khatam kar do inko (Soldiers, let’s finish them off today)” and ordered his troops to continue fighting against Pakistani drones.
Martyr BSF SI Mohd Imteyaj
BSF Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj, who displayed an extraordinary display of strength and courage during Operation Sindoor and struggled with severe injuries, shouted “Jawano, aaj khatam kar do inko (Soldiers, let’s finish them off today)” and ordered his troops to continue fighting against Pakistani drones. The officer later died from his injuries and gave his life in the service of the country.
Sub-Inspector Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham of 7th BSF battalion were posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for their bravery during Operation Sindoor, one of India’s most significant military operations. Earlier this month, a government newspaper quoted by news agency PTI in its report dated October 22 gave information about the heroic action taken at the Kharkola border post (BOP) in Jammu on that fateful day.
During Operation Sindoor, when Pakistan rained down drones and missiles on innocent civilians as well as soldiers, the BSF post in Harkola came under target. At that time, SI Imteyaj came out of his shelter to take out a UAV with a light machine gun (LMG), while Constable Chingakham displayed endurance and bravery by tackling another UAV.
However, a mortar shell exploded near the guard post and both men were injured. “While leading from the front, Sub-Inspector Mohd. Imteyaj sustained severe injuries, including crushed extremities, abdominal trauma and serious splinter wounds to his neck and arms. Despite his terminal condition, he continued to issue orders and motivate his troops, saying: ‘Jawano, aaj khatam kar do inko’,” the citation read.
Moreover, Constable Chingakham also suffered multiple injuries but refused to abandon his comrade. He continued to fight until his last breath.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, was India’s retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. Indian armed forces launched attacks in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pak’s Punjab province, killing more than 100 terrorists.
Pakistan has also launched drone/missile attacks on areas bordering India in a desperate attempt to retaliate. The conflict, which lasted three days, ended with a ceasefire agreement reached between the two countries on May 10.
