Hermès Brisbane store on Edward Street smashed by stolen Mercedes SUV in Easter Monday ram-raid
Ram-raiders crashed into an SUV through the windshield of a luxury designer store in Brisbane’s CBD.
Thieves used a stolen white Mercedes SUV to attack the Hermès Brisbane store on the corner of Edward and Elizabeth streets shortly after 3am on Easter Monday.
In what appeared to be a well-planned operation, two more vehicles arrived immediately on the scene.
Three unidentified criminals loaded items from the luxury store, including handbags worth thousands of dollars, into the second vehicle.
“The criminals left in a third vehicle and both vehicles left the scene,” police said in a statement.
“The Mercedes was abandoned at the scene and is currently undergoing forensic examination.”
The Mercedes was stolen from a Coorparoo home on Brisbane’s south side on April 1.
Judicial police, security guards and cleaners were at the store late on Easter Monday morning.
Fire crews set up scaffolding to hold up the broken window and ensure the structural integrity of the building.
Images inside show some glass cabinets may have been damaged but were not broken.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery or saw camera footage of the scene was asked to contact the police.
