The heart-stopping moment a toddler dangled from a ledge in London was caught on camera as distressed witnesses were left powerless below.

The teenager hangs over a loan shark on Ilford High Road in East London as onlookers gather to witness the unnerving scenes.

While the girl tries to hold on with all her strength, the surrounding people watch helplessly from the sidewalk.

At one stage a worried woman appears from a lower window and calls out to the boy as the police officer and the man carry out the rescue operation.

A shirtless man wearing gray sweatpants stands directly beneath the girl, who is standing next to the police officer who rushes to the scene.

At the moment when the young girl finally fails, both men position themselves on the roof.

In this sickening moment, gasps rise from the crowd as the boy falls from the ledge.

However, the public successfully catches the girl with both of them being pinned down by the police officer.

The crowd then expresses collective relief with applause and words of encouragement. The girl was then passed back through the lower window from which the woman had appeared.

Both the man and the police officer embrace as the crowd applauds them.

The Met Police confirmed officers were called to the area shortly after 3.20pm on Tuesday following reports of concerns for the safety of a child. A Met Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Ilford High Road at 3.23pm on Tuesday, June 9, following concerns for the safety of a child climbing on the windowsill.

“The girl was taken to safety by a duty officer and members of the public at 3.32pm.

“They did not sustain any injuries.”

Remarkably, the teenager was rescued in just nine minutes.
