Hezbollah support endures in south Lebanon as ceasefire fails to stop war with Israel

Life seemed to stand still. The main street was still decorated for Ramadan and almost all the houses looked abandoned. The village was quiet, but not peaceful. Near the mosque I met two cousins named Fatmeh and Dunya, both in their 80s. Outside, a banner hung in memory of the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel in 2024. “We witnessed many wars. But we were never separated,” Fatmeh said. “We thought that no matter what, we would die in our homes rather than leave.”
