Hillsboro teen shot dead, body left for hours before mom found her

A Missouri teenager was shot to death and left at her home for hours before her mother returned and found her body, authorities said, prompting criminal charges against three boys.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon. They found 16-year-old Gabbriana Boyster with a gunshot wound to the head at a home on Tower Road near Hillsboro, about 45 minutes southwest of St. Louis. Investigators believe he was shot Friday evening while three teenagers who knew him were at the home.
A suspect is charged with involuntary manslaughter, unlawful use of a weapon resulting in death, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse, according to the Jefferson County Juvenile Department. Two others were charged with abandoning a body and were later released. Authorities were unable to identify the suspects because they were minors.

Boyster’s mother, Candy G’Sell, was not present at the time of the attack, according to the sheriff’s office. HE He told KSDK The last conversation he had with his daughter was Friday night.
“He told me he was staying at home. So I told him to lock the door,” G’Sell told the press.
When G’Sell returned home Saturday afternoon, she found her daughter’s body and called 911, according to the sheriff’s office. Medical teams determined that the young man died at the scene.

“I walked into the room and he was laying there…sitting,” G’Sell said. “You understand in the blink of an eye. He didn’t deserve this.”
Investigators have not said what led to the shooting, although they said Boyster and the three suspects knew each other. G’Sell told the press that the boys were all friends of her daughter.
“This is not a game. Guns are not toys,” G’Sell said.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said the case left many families grieving.
“There is no way to overcome the loss of life,” Bissell said KTVI. “You’ve got one family torn apart by the loss of a loved one. You’ve got three more families potentially torn apart by the consequences of that [of the] the actions of these young people. “This is a no-win situation.”

G’Sell remembered her daughter, known as “Gabby” to her friends, as a good-hearted teenager who loved her family, cared deeply about her friends and dreamed of becoming an ultrasound technician, according to KSDK. Instead of preparing for her daughter’s first year at Hillsboro High School, G’Sell said she spent the week planning her daughter’s funeral.
“There is no relief. My baby is gone,” G’Sell told the press. “Which mother wants to bury her baby?”

The Hillsboro School District said grief counselors will be available for students and families following Boyster’s death.
Inspector Dr. “Our hearts go out to the student’s family, friends, and everyone else affected by this unimaginable loss,” Jon Isaacson said in a statement obtained by the student.
