Himachal Pradesh: 298 people dead since onset of monsoon, says SDMA

State Disaster Management Administration, Sunday, August 24, 2025, said a total of 298 people have lost their lives since the beginning of the monsoon on June 20.
According to a report made by SDMA, 152 out of these 298 deaths were related to landslides, flash floods, house collapses and rain caused by other -triggered events. At the same time, 146 death traffic accidents, many of which were connected to slippery conditions and damaged ways.
Heavy monsoon rains, according to SDMA, two national highways (NH-03 and NH-305), blocked, 208 electric distribution transformers were broken and struggled with severe infrastructure damage, including 51 water supply schemes.
The Mandi region reported the highest road cuts with 220 blocked routes, including NH-03. Kullu, Banjar and Balichowki’nin 101 roads, including NH-305 cut at more than one point. Among the other affected regions, 24 road blocks, chambius, 21 to kangra, 12 to flour, eight to shimla, nine to sirmaur, two kinnaur with two, cahaul-spite with one and two ways with two ways.
In terms of power supply, the Mandi region saw the biggest effect with the deterioration of the transformer, then 17 in Kullu, 26 in Chamba, 23 in Kinnaur and six in Kangra. The report was affected by the water supply schemes mainly in Mandi (36) and Lahaul-Spiti (2) and smaller cuts in other areas.
Authorities, numerous road cleaning teams, power restoration teams and emergency water supply measures, but constantly preventing heavy rainfall restoration work.
SDMA advised the residents in the vulnerable areas to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary trips and remain up to date with official recommendations as the monsoon conditions continue.
