Himanta Biswa Sarma resigns as Assam Chief Minister

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation to the Governor, paving the way for the formation of a new government, officials said.

Earlier, Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel handed over the State Assembly poll results to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The governor will now begin the process of forming the new government.
